Picton's comeback falls short, Campbellford wins 5-3

The Campbellford Rebels came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Picton Pirates, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Campbellford led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Rebels' Graiden Maynard scored on the power play at 16:27 in the first period to put Campbellford up 3-0.

The Rebels pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 34 penalty minutes.

Campbellford was paced by Jacob Trotter, who grabbed one goal. Trotter scored on the power play 9:04 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Campbellford. The Rebels had gotten the advantage when Picton's Zack Harris was sent off for slashing. Maynard provided the assist.

Campbellford put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Pirates to score on any of their six power plays. The Rebels outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Campbellford averages 2.4 goals per contest.

Campbellford additionally got points from Austin Fry, who also had one goal and two assists, Maynard, who also registered one goal and two assists, Riley McGuire, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Brenan Rylott, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Campbellford came via Robby Ellis, who had one.

Picton's offense rang up 36 shots on the Rebels' net.

The Pirates were helped by Gerald Bilker, who grabbed one goal. Bilker scored 8:48 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Campbellford. Nate Kellar picked up the assist. Others who scored for Picton included Devin McCann and Nick Devito, who scored one goal each. In addition, Picton received assists from Mitch Thompson and Mitchell Merry, who contributed one each.

Cole Mahoney made 33 saves for Campbellford on 36 shots. The Rebels registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. Charles Grimard recorded 24 saves for Picton. The Pirates incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
