Amherstview beats Port Hope 2-1 after comeback scare

The Amherstview Jets survived a determined comeback attempt by the Port Hope Panthers on the way to a 2-1 win.

Amherstview made the score 2-0 on a goal by Cody Jodoin at 7:09 in the second period, and Port Hope got as close as 2-1 when Dan Lagrois scored 18:11 into the third period.

The Jets were led by goalie Ryan Kaszuba, who finished with 27 saves while allowing one goal. Kaszuba managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 4.04 prior to the game.

Amherstview excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Jets could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Amherstview puts an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game.

Amherstview also got a goal from Zach Maciel as well. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Brett Yake, Dorian Overland, Jordan Howe, and Dawson Chard, who contributed one each.

The Panthers were held below their usual level of production. Port Hope averages 5.4 goals per game.

More assists for Port Hope came via Blane Gaudon, who had one.

The Jets totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-3 on the power play. Amherstview ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Konner Burtenshaw was ejected from the game. The Panthers' Aaron Young stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. Port Hope incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
