Napanee pulls away in second, rolls over Gananoque, 9-0

The Gananoque Islanders allowed the Napanee Raiders to net three goals during the second period and fell, 9-0.

Austin Boulard had two goals and one assist to lead Napanee. Boulard scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Napanee. The Raiders had taken the advantage when Gananoque's Matt Carter got sent off for interference. Chad Caskenette provided the assist. Boulard's next tally on the power play made the score 2-0 Napanee with 13:36 left in the second period. Napanee had gained a power play chance when Brody Cross was whistled for hooking. Brandon Major picked up the assist.

The Islanders were doomed by their poor performance on special teams, as the Raiders were able to score four times while on the power play.

Napanee stifled Gananoque's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Raiders' defensive play was more effective than usual against the Islanders. Napanee allows 3.0 goals per game. The Raiders forced Gananoque goalie Travis Frankland APM to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. Napanee's goal total was higher than its season average. The Raiders average 4.4 goals per game.

Napanee also got points from Cullen Hinds, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Aidan McFarland, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Caskenette, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Napanee included Zack Revell, who had two and Tyler Romain and Trent Schutt, who each put in one. More assists for Napanee came via Jordan Cannons, who had two, Riley Steeves, who had three, and Matt Tedford, Michael Parr, Nicolas Schuler, and Will Peirson, who each chipped in one.

The Islanders could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Gananoque puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Islanders were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 34 penalty minutes.

Napanee's Cameron Parr stopped 24 shots out of the 24 that he faced. The Raiders incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Travis Frankland APM made 33 saves for Gananoque on 42 shots. The Islanders registered zero goals on four power play opportunities. For Gananoque, Phil Smith was ejected from the game.
