Amherstview shrugs off penalties, upends Campbellford, 7-1

The Campbellford Rebels failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Amherstview Jets shook off a number of penalties to win, 7-1.

Amherstview was sparked by Zach Maciel, who finished with one goal. Maciel scored on the power play 8:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview. A checking from behind penalty on Riley McGuire had put the Jets on the power play. Dawson Chard provided the assist.

Amherstview was often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 49 minutes in penalty time. The Jets had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game. Amherstview forced Rebels' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 39 shots and forcing 32 saves. Tyler Freemen made 32 stops and Cole Mahoney made zero. The Jets stifled Campbellford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Amherstview additionally got points from Mike McKitrick, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Jordan Howe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Amherstview also had goals scored by Cody Jodoin, Dorian Overland, Max Brunner, and Joey Mayer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Brett Yake, who had two, Perry Tristan, who had three, and Adam Alcorn, Zach Kish, Wyatt Crampton, and Cosimo Morin, who contributed one each.

The Rebels could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Campbellford was led by Graiden Maynard, who scored the team's only goal. Maynard scored 9:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Campbellford. Koel Newton picked up the assist.

Adam Redgate made 24 saves for Amherstview on 25 shots. The Jets registered three goals on seven power play opportunities. Amherstview ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Crampton was ejected from the game. The Rebels registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. For Campbellford, McGuire was ejected from the game.
