Amherstview's Maciel deadly on offense in 8-5 win against Gananoque

Behind a great game by Zach Maciel, who had two goals, the Amherstview Jets defeated the Gananoque Islanders, 8-5.

Maciel's tallies came at 11:39 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Amherstview and 9:38 into the third to make the score 6-5 Amherstview.

Amherstview's offense rang up 50 shots on Gananoque's net. The Jets' goal total was higher than their season average. Amherstview averages 5.6 goals per game. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

Amherstview additionally got points from Brett Yake, who also registered one goal and three assists, Cody Smith, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Dawson Chard, who also had one goal and two assists, and Cosimo Morin, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Wyatt Crampton also scored for Amherstview. Other players who recorded assists for Amherstview were Alex Rice, Joey Mayer, Matt Bruinsma, and Brett Maracle, who contributed one each.

The Islanders managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Gananoque finished below its season average of 14.0 penalty minutes per game. The Islanders forced the Jets goalie Adam Redgate to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Gananoque was led by Drew Marquette, who registered two goals and one assist. Marquette scored the first of his two goals at 52 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gananoque. Phil Smith provided the assist. Marquette's next tally made the score 3-2 Gananoque with 17:21 left in the second period. Nick Kirkby picked up the assist. Gananoque also got points from Duncan McNaughton, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Smith, who also had one goal and one assist. Gananoque also got a goal from Tyson OToole as well. More assists for Gananoque came via Cole Serson and Elijah Fitzgerald APM, who each chipped in one and Matt Carter and Brody Cross, who contributed two each.

Amherstview's Redgate stopped 27 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Jets incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Quinn Cota rejected 42 shots on goal for the Islanders. Gananoque registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
