Yake's hat trick boosts Amherstview over Picton, 8-2

A hat trick by Brett Yake was the highlight in Jets' 8-2 win against the Picton Pirates.

Yake got on the scoresheet 5:55 into the first period. He then added goals at 25 seconds into the second and at 15:36 into the third.

The Amherstview Jets gained an early advantage, leading 4-0 by the end of the first period.

Amherstview forced Picton goalie Brock Tufts to work between the pipes, taking 53 shots. The Jets found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Amherstview averages 5.6 goals per contest. The Jets were ineffective while on the power play, as they were held to two goals off of 12 man advantages. Amherstview found itself short handed often, totaling 44 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Amherstview also got points from Jordan Howe, who also had one goal and one assist and Joey Mayer, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Amherstview also had goals scored by Mike McKitrick, Cody Smith, and Brett Maracle, who scored one goal each. In addition, Amherstview received assists from Cody Jodoin, who had three and Zach Maciel and Dawson Chard, who each chipped in one.

Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Pirates were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 66 penalty minutes.

Ryan Kaszuba made 18 saves for the Jets on 20 shots. For Amherstview, Adam Kim and Maracle were ejected from the contest. Tufts rejected 45 shots on goal for Picton. Team's Mitch Thompson and Mitch Burke were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
