Port Hope rolls over Campbellford, 9-1Empire Jr. C Sat, Sep 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Campbellford Rebels had trouble finding ways to stop the Port Hope Panthers, which beat Rebels, 9-1. Port Hope got the win behind a great game by Matthew Goeree, who had one goal and two assists. Goeree scored 9:52 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Port Hope. Blane Gaudon picked up the assist. Campbellford was stymied by the Panthers' netminder Sheldon Calbury, who stopped 25 shots during the victory. Calbury certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.48 entering the contest. Port Hope forced the Rebels' goaltenders to work all game long, taking 52 shots and forcing 43 saves. Cole Mahoney made 43 stops and Tyler Freemen made zero. The Panthers stifled Campbellford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Port Hope surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Panthers have scored at the pace of 5.1 goals per game during the current campaign. Port Hope also got points from Gaudon, who also registered one goal and two assists, Dalton Lawrence, who also racked up two goals and one assist, and Evan Foley, who also registered one goal and two assists. Stavros Soilis also scored for Port Hope. More assists for Port Hope came via Shawn Mackie, who had two and Cameron McGill, who had three. The Rebels' penalty kill unit could not stop Port Hope's power play, which converted on four of seven opportunities. The Panthers incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Campbellford totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 0-for-4 on the power play. The Rebels ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Riley Reynolds was ejected from the game. |
