M1 Mercyhurst University uses shootout to best M1 Colorado State University, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Mercyhurst University Lakers defeated the M1 Colorado State University Rams in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The two teams needed 22 turns to complete the shootout. M1 Colorado State University got a shootout goal from Alexander Neitenbach. M1 Mercyhurst University's other shootout goal was scored by Darnell Clarke.

The Lakers saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. M1 Mercyhurst University made the score 4-1 on a power play goal by Michal Smid at 19:02 in the second period. The Rams evened things up at 4-4 on a power play goal by Nicholas ODonnell at 12:42 in the third period.

Jesse Valasek was a peerless playmaker for the Lakers, as he dished out three to beat M1 Colorado State University,.

M1 Mercyhurst University forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 18.0 minutes per game the Lakers had been spending in the box. M1 Mercyhurst University put 43 shots on net during the contest, more than the 1.9 it averages per game.

M1 Mercyhurst University also had goals scored by Joseph Zinner, Nicholas Rocco, and Emilio Mayagoitia Puente, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Mercyhurst University received assists from Clarke, Pavel Nayda, Kevin Valasek, Jonah Jobin, and Brian Hamm, who each chipped in one.

The Rams' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. M1 Colorado State University also got points from Eric Killam, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Colorado State University were Jordan Gnatowsky and Luke Fiegl, who contributed one each and William Neff and Cameron Rivard, who each chipped in two.

Adam Goss recorded 54 saves for the Lakers. M1 Mercyhurst University registered three goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Lakers, Hamm was ejected from the game. M1 Colorado State University's Michael Porter stopped 38 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Rams registered one goal on five power play opportunities. M1 Colorado State University ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nickolas Roberts was ejected from the game.
