M1 Western Michigan University vanquishes M1 Illinois State University in shootout, 7-6 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Western Michigan University Stallions defeated M1 Illinois State University in a shootout 7-6 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for eight attempts between the teams.

M1 Western Michigan University came back from a four-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Stallions fell behind 5-1 after a goal by M1 Illinois State University's Jeremy Norway at 13:12 in the first period. M1 Western Michigan University knotted things up at 6-6 on a power play goal by Zach Mudge at 8:45 in the third period.

The Stallions got the win thanks to a great game by Mudge, who had one goal and two assists.

M1 Western Michigan University forced M1 Illinois State University's goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 48 shots and forcing 41 saves. Joey Garapolo made 23 stops and Marc Hayton made 18. The Stallions excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in eight chances.
