MNEPDL 16U uses shootout to best NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U, 4-3

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as MNEPDL 16U defeated NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U in a shootout 4-3.

The shootout lasted for nine attempts between the teams.

In the losing effort, NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U was paced by Tyler Hafeman, who had two goals. Hafeman scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 3:19 into the third period to make the score 2-2. NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U had gained a power play chance when Blake Brandt was whistled for tripping. Bryce Paul picked up the assist. Hafeman's next tally on the power play made the score 3-2 NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U with 9:16 left in the third period. NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U had gotten the advantage when MNEPDL 16U's Brody Swanson was sent off for hooking. Paul assisted on the tally.

NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U was unable to stop MNEPDL 16U from sending pucks towards the net, and MNEPDL 16U eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

MNEPDL 16U was helped by Matt Kocourek, who had one goal and one assist. Kocourek scored 8:30 into the second period to make the score 2-0 MNEPDL 16U. Brandon Caudill picked up the assist. MNEPDL 16U also got points from Caudill, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Luke Mobley, who also grabbed one goal and one assist.

NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six MNEPDL 16U power plays.

NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U additionally got points from Bennett Debouche, who also registered one goal and two assists.

MNEPDL 16U took out Ben Garrity after he had made six saves and installed Garrett Mackay in goal, where he finished with nine saves and the win. MNEPDL 16U incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Preston Long rejected 36 shots on goal for NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U. NE Wisconsin Hornets 16U incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
