M1 Binghamton University uses fast start to beat M1 Ithaca College, 9-3

The M1 Binghamton University Bearcats opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 9-3 win over the M1 Ithaca College Bombers.

Peter Russo had two goals and three assists to lead M1 Binghamton University. Russo scored the first of his two goals at 12:18 into the second period to make the score 8-1 M1 Binghamton University. Matteo Reiss picked up the assist. Russo's next tally made the score 9-2 M1 Binghamton University with 15:43 left in the third period. Kyle Lawrence assisted on the tally.

The Bearcats' penalty kill excelled, as M1 Binghamton University gave up zero goals despite allowing nine power plays.

The Bearcats stifled M1 Ithaca College's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. M1 Binghamton University bested its season scoring average. The Bearcats average 4.6 goals per game. M1 Binghamton University's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals. The Bearcats could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. M1 Binghamton University's offense was clicking better than usual and put 51 shots on goal during the game, better than the 0.1 shots per game it averages.

M1 Binghamton University also got points from Lawrence, who also registered one goal and two assists, Cody Dynarski, who also finished with one goal and two assists, and Daniel Kowalsky, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for M1 Binghamton University included Jonathan Lavis, who had two and Zachary Schappert and Nick Foray, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Binghamton University received assists from Christopher Frye, who had two.

The Bombers forced the Bearcats' goalies to work all game long, firing 36 shots and forcing 33 saves. Harris Pittinsky made 14 stops and Ryan Gallagher made 19. M1 Ithaca College put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow M1 Binghamton University to score on any of its five power plays. The Bombers were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time.

M1 Ithaca College was helped by Michael Morra, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Morra scored 14:21 into the third period to make the score 9-3 M1 Binghamton University. Ryan Krohto picked up the assist. M1 Ithaca College additionally got points from Liam Barry, who also had one goal and one assist. M1 Ithaca College also got a goal from Tim Foster as well. More assists for M1 Ithaca College came via Zander Hoke and Ryan Murtagh, who each chipped in one.

The Bombers' starting goalie, Sam Attias, made eight saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Dylan Meyer, who stopped 34 shots.
