Huge game by Pageau boosts Stoney Creek over Whitby, 4-1Gateway Ice Centre Sun, Feb 14, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
Nathan Pageau had two goals and two assists to lead the Stoney Creek Generals to a 4-1 victory over the Whitby Dunlops. Pageau scored short handed at 9:52 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Stoney Creek and again while short handed 12:41 into the second to make the score 3-1 Stoney Creek.Stoney Creek was led by goalie Daniel Svedin, who finished with 32 saves while allowing one goal. Svedin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.59 entering the contest. Whitby's power play was ineffective against the Generals' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded. Stoney Creek excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Generals were held below their usual level of production. Stoney Creek averages 6.9 goals per game. The Dunlops were unable to stop the Generals from sending pucks towards the net, and Stoney Creek eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. The Generals could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game. Matt Smith also scored for Stoney Creek. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Dylan Quaile, Ryan Healy, Marcus Ruberto, and Justin Donati, who contributed one each. Whitby did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Dunlops put an average of 5.2 pucks into the net per game. Whitby's offense rang up 33 shots on Stoney Creek's net. The Dunlops did not rack up many penalties in the contest, registering only one minor for 12 minutes in penalty time. Whitby was led by Kyle Ventura, who scored the team's only goal. Ventura scored 17:59 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. The Generals registered one goal on one power play opportunities. Jason Guy made 40 saves for the Dunlops on 44 shots.
