Dundas uses shootout to best Brantford, 2-1 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dundas Real McCoys defeated the Brantford Blast in a shootout 2-1 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Dundas came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Real McCoys trailed 1-0 after a goal by Brantford's Derek Medeiros at 15:32 in the first period. Dundas knotted things up at 1-1 on a goal by Jake Guindon at 12:44 in the second period.

The Real McCoys were led by goalie Mike Mole, who finished with 58 saves while allowing one goal. Mole certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 5.42 entering the contest.

Dundas managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Real McCoys finished below its season average of 11.0 penalty minutes per game.

More assists for Dundas came via Shawn Snider and Chris Hulit, who contributed one each.

The Blast stifled Dundas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Brantford's offense operated below its season average. The Blast average 4.4 goals per game. Brantford forced the Real McCoys goalie Mole to work between the pipes, taking 59 shots.

In addition, Brantford received assists from Mark Taylor and Joel Prpic, who each chipped in one.

Dundas registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. The Blast's Brett Leggat stopped 26 shots out of the 27 that he faced. Brantford incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
