Dundas survives Thorold comeback, wins 4-3

The Thorold Athletics tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Dundas Real McCoys held on for a 4-3 victory.

Dundas took a 4-2 lead during the second period, only to have Thorold storm back on a Steven Dol goal 4:05 into the third period to pull to one goal down.

The Real McCoys were led by Cam Watson, who had one goal and one assist. Watson scored 17:01 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Dundas. Greg Stewart assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:21 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Dundas was often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 17 minutes in penalty time. The Real McCoys surpassed its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game. Dundas forced the Athletics goalie Frank Novello to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Real McCoys' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Dundas also had goals scored by Jake Guindon, Jake Laplante, and Scott Stafford, who each put in one. More assists for Dundas came via Matthew Bragg, who had one and Shawn Snider, who had three.

Dundas was unable to stop Thorold from sending pucks towards the net, and the Athletics eventually piled up 39 shots on goal.

Thorold was helped by Steve Zmudcynski, who registered one goal and one assist. Zmudcynski scored 1:32 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derek Nichols picked up the assist. Thorold additionally got points from Nichols, who also tallied one goal and one assist. In addition, Thorold received assists from Tyler Turcotte and John Falzoi, who contributed one each.

The Real McCoys' Mike Mole stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Dundas registered one goal on four power play opportunities. For the Real McCoys, Stewart was ejected from the game. Novello rejected 38 shots on goal for the Athletics. Thorold totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Athletics ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dol was ejected from the game.
