Thorold beats Stoney Creek 6-4 after comeback scareThorold Community Arena Fri, Jan 08, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Stoney Creek Generals tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Thorold Athletics held on for a 6-4 victory. Thorold took a 6-3 lead during the third period, only to have Stoney Creek storm back on a Nathan Pageau goal 17:17 into the third period to pull to two goals down. JJ Martin had two goals and one assist to lead the Athletics. Martin scored the first of his two goals at 14:00 into the first period to make the score 2-2. Steven Dol picked up the assist. Martin's next tally made the score 5-3 Thorold with 3:41 left in the second period. Dol provided the assist. Thorold cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on four chances. The defensemen of the Athletics were also effective in the Generals' zone, and came away with two goals. Thorold additionally got points from Dol, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Thorold also got a goal from Tyler Turcotte as well. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Brad Jackson and Chris Risi, who each chipped in one. Stoney Creek did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Generals put an average of 7.0 pucks into the net per game. Stoney Creek's offense rang up 40 shots on Thorold's net. The Generals were helped by Andrew Radjenovic, who racked up one goal. Radjenovic scored 3:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stoney Creek. Stoney Creek also got points from Brandon McMartin, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Joshua Triemstra also scored for Stoney Creek. More assists for Stoney Creek came via Roger Sherwood and Myles Falasca, who contributed one each. Frank Novello recorded 36 saves for the Athletics. Thorold incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Stoney Creek's Ryan Demelo stopped 21 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Generals incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
