Hamilton wins tough contest against Dundas, 5-3

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hamilton Steelhawks escaped with a 5-3 victory over the Dundas Real McCoys.

Hamilton gained the winning advantage on a goal by Frankie Grandits 4:41 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Kevin Jaczenko and Grandits provided the spark for the Steelhawks, combining for three goals and one assist. Jaczenko had two goals and one assist and Grandits also added one goal.

Hamilton stifled Dundas' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Steelhawks forced the Real McCoys goalie Mike Mole to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Hamilton also had goals scored by Gary Clarke and Steven Mueller, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Ben Walsh, Mike Auksi, and Kevin Rebelo, who contributed one each.

Dundas kept Hamilton's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ben Goss made 39 saves on 42 shots.

The Real McCoys were helped by Chris Hulit, who registered two goals and one assist. Hulit scored the first of his two goals at 20 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Dundas. Matthew Bragg picked up the assist. Hulit's next tally made the score 3-3 with 18:35 left in the third period. Bragg assisted on the tally. Dundas also got points from Bragg, who also finished with one goal and two assists. In addition, Dundas received assists from Brent Vandenberg, who had two.

The Steelhawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Mike Mole made 34 saves for Dundas on 38 shots. The Real McCoys incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Dundas ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Kyle Koktailo was ejected from the game.
