Whitby pulls away in second, rolls over Hamilton, 7-1Mountain Arena Sat, Dec 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hamilton Steelhawks was within striking distance after one period, but the Whitby Dunlops put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-1 victory. Whitby got the win behind a great game by Corey Tamblyn, who had two goals and one assist. Tamblyn scored the first of his two goals at 1:30 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Whitby. Brett McConnachie provided the assist. Tamblyn's next tally made the score 3-0 Whitby with 18:20 left in the second period. McConnachie assisted on the tally. The Dunlops' Jason Guy was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 32 saves and let only one puck past him. Guy certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.95 entering the contest. Whitby forced Steelhawks' goalies to work between the pipes, finishing with 53 shots and forcing 46 saves. Tim Rogers made 20 stops and Ben Goss made 26. The Dunlops excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. Whitby also got points from Patrick Jobb, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Shane Terry, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Marcus Carroll also scored for Whitby. In addition, Whitby received assists from Darren Doherty, Nick Jobb, and Matthew Baxter, who each chipped in one and Kyle Ventura and Derek Gregorak, who contributed two each. Hamilton's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Whitby power plays. The Steelhawks forced Whitby goalie Guy to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots. The Dunlops incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Hamilton incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
