Huge game by Musselman boosts Whitby over Dundas, 13-6

The Whitby Dunlops' Kyle Musselman had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing three assists in his team's 13-6 win over the Dundas Real McCoys.

Musselman scored at 5:20 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Whitby and again while 18:09 into the third to make the score 13-6 Whitby.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:09 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Whitby forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and three majors for 45 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game the Dunlops had been spending in the box. Whitby forced Real McCoys' goaltenders to work between the pipes, totaling 46 shots and forcing 33 saves. Neil Clelland made 25 stops and Brock Novak made eight. The Dunlops surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Whitby averages 5.7 goals per contest. The Dunlops' penalty kill was ineffective, and let in two goals to Dundas' power play unit.

Whitby additionally got points from Corey Tamblyn, who also had one goal and one assist, Scott Freeman, who also racked up two goals and three assists, Peter MacKellar, who also registered four goals and two assists to lead the team in points, Patrick Jobb, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, and Brett McConnachie, who also finished with one goal and four assists. Others who scored for Whitby included Jason Dale and Connor Shingler, who each put in one. More assists for Whitby came via Mike Pain, who had two, Shane Terry, who had four, and Will Jones and Matthew Baxter, who contributed one each.

The Real McCoys forced Whitby goalie Jason Guy to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Dundas was helped by Chris McGuffin, who racked up one goal. McGuffin scored 12:01 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Curtis Campbell assisted on the tally. Dundas also got points from Jordan Foreman, who also had one goal and one assist, Campbell, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Chris Hulit, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Dundas also got a goal from Cam Watson as well. In addition, Dundas received assists from Dan Brewer, Scott Stafford, Steve Hurst, and Trevor Atkinson, who each chipped in one.

Jason Guy made 25 saves for the Dunlops on 31 shots. Whitby registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Pain, Greg Leyden, and Chris Purves were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Real McCoys ended with 31 minutes in penalty time with three minors and three majors. For Dundas, Beni Berisha, Brent Vandenberg, and Hurst were ejected from the contest.
