Thorold vanquishes Stoney Creek in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Thorold Athletics defeated the Stoney Creek Generals in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams.

Thorold came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Athletics trailed 3-1 after a goal by Stoney Creek's Mike Ruberto at 12:04 in the second period. Thorold knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Brad Jackson at 2:01 in the third period.

The Athletics' offense rang up 41 shots on the Generals' net.

Thorold was helped by #$self.jersey, who registered one goal. #$self.jersey scored 11:40 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Steven Dol assisted on the tally. Thorold additionally got points from Jackson, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Fraser Smith also scored for Thorold. More assists for Thorold came via Blake Kerling and Ben MacAskill, who each chipped in one.

Stoney Creek did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Generals average 7.0 goals per game. Stoney Creek forced the Athletics goalie Frank Novello to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

The Generals were led by Andrew Radjenovic, who tallied one goal and one assist. Radjenovic scored 6:06 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stoney Creek. Ruberto picked up the assist. Stoney Creek also got points from Ruberto, who also had one goal and one assist. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Chris Knighton as well. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Kyle Frieday, Sean Blanchard, Ryan O Marra, and Matt Ruberto, who contributed one each.

Thorold's Novello stopped 36 shots out of the 39 that he faced. The Athletics incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Daniel Svedin rejected 37 shots on goal for Stoney Creek. The Generals incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
