The Thorold Athletics jumped out to a six-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Hamilton Steelhawks, 13-4.

Chris Risi had two goals and two assists to lead Thorold. Risi scored the first of his two goals at 8:10 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Thorold. John Falzoi assisted on the tally. Risi's next tally made the score 9-1 Thorold with 16:19 left in the second period. Brad Jackson picked up the assist.

The Athletics forced Hamilton's netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 51 shots and forcing 38 saves. Ben Goss made 13 stops and Tim Rogers made 25. Thorold stifled the Steelhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Athletics surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Thorold averages 4.6 goals per game. The Athletics' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in three goals.

Thorold also got points from JJ Martin, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, Tory McLean, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Joe Christiano, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Falzoi, who also had two goals and two assists. Others who scored for Thorold included Steve Zmudcynski, who had three and Reid Lesswing, Blake Kerling, and Chris McLean, who scored one goal each. In addition, Thorold received assists from Fraser Smith, who had two, Steven Dol, who had five, and Derek Nichols and Ben MacAskill, who contributed one each.

Hamilton forced Thorold's goaltenders to work in net, launching 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Frank Novello made 17 stops and Matt Sagrott made 14. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals.

The Steelhawks were helped by Joel Petkoff, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Petkoff scored 17:24 into the second period to make the score 12-3 Thorold. Tony Iaquinto assisted on the tally. Hamilton also had goals scored by Cody Wilson, Stuart Isnor, and Alexander Aquinn, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Colin Isnor, Steven Mueller, and Kyle McQuade, who each chipped in one.

The Athletics incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Hamilton incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
