Whitby squeaks by Dundas, 4-3

The Whitby Dunlops gutted out a close 4-3 win against the Dundas Real McCoys.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Adam Van Dam at 12:51 of the third period.

Kyle Ventura had two goals and one assist to lead Whitby. Ventura scored the first of his two goals at 19:28 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby. Jason Dale picked up the assist. Ventura's next tally made the score 3-2 Whitby with 11:28 left in the third period.

The Dunlops excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Whitby forced Dundas goalie Mike Mole to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

Whitby also got a goal from Brett McConnachie as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Matthew Baxter and Shane Terry, who contributed one each.

The Real McCoys stifled the Dunlops' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Whitby was unable to stop Dundas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Real McCoys eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Dundas was helped by Matthew Bragg, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Bragg scored 9:50 into the third period to make the score 3-3. Dan Lapointe assisted on the tally. Dundas also got points from Chris Hulit, who also registered one goal and one assist. Shawn Snider also scored for Dundas. Other players who recorded assists for Dundas were Simon Mangos and Scott Stafford, who each chipped in one.

Anthony Kimlin rejected 37 shots on goal for the Dunlops. Whitby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Mole recorded 29 saves for the Real McCoys. Dundas incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
