Whitby survives Dundas comeback, wins 5-4

The Whitby Dunlops, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Dundas Real McCoys and clinched a 5-4 victory.

Whitby led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Dunlops' Kyle Ventura scored at 10:49 in the second period to put Whitby up 4-1.

The Dunlops were paced by Shane Terry, who racked up one goal and one assist. Terry scored 8:11 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Whitby. Adam Van Dam picked up the assist.

Whitby's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Dundas power plays. The Dunlops kept Dundas' goalie busy throughout the game, and Neil Clelland made 35 saves on 40 shots.

Whitby additionally got points from Ventura, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Van Dam, who also grabbed one goal and two assists. Others who scored for Whitby included Matt Gray and Greg Leyden, who scored one goal each. More assists for Whitby came via Patrick Jobb, Chris Gour, Jason Dale, and Marcus Carroll, who contributed one each.

Whitby was unable to stop the Real McCoys from sending pucks towards the net, and Dundas eventually piled up 36 shots on goal.

The Real McCoys were helped by Scott Stafford, who registered one goal. Stafford scored 17:37 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Whitby. Derek Matheson assisted on the tally. Dundas also got points from Mike Amodeo, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Beni Berisha, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dundas also got a goal from Cam Watson as well. In addition, Dundas received assists from Shawn Snider, who had two and Simon Mangos and Jake Guindon, who each chipped in one.

Anthony Kimlin recorded 32 saves for the Dunlops. Whitby incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors and had no power play opportunities. Dundas ended with seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major. For the Real McCoys, Dan Lapointe was ejected from the game.
