Dundas vanquishes Hamilton in shootout, 5-4 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Dundas Real McCoys defeated the Hamilton Steelhawks in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured eight attempts between both teams. Hamilton's shootout goal was scored by Joel Petkoff. In addition to the clincher, Dundas got a shootout goal from Dan Lapointe.

The Real McCoys pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 18 penalty minutes.

Dundas was led by Matthew Bragg, who tallied one goal. Bragg scored on the power play 16:31 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Dundas. A hooking penalty on Cole McNeil had put the Real McCoys on the power play. Chris Hulit provided the assist.

Dundas forced the Steelhawks goalie Tim Rogers to work between the pipes, taking 49 shots.

Dundas additionally got points from Derek Matheson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Dundas also had goals scored by Mike Amodeo and Lapointe, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dundas received assists from Jordan Foreman and Brad Bonello, who each chipped in two.

Hamilton kept the Real McCoys' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mike Mole made 39 saves on 43 shots. The Steelhawks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 16 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Hamilton also got points from Jason Ward, who also had one goal and one assist. Petkoff also scored for Hamilton. Other players who recorded assists for Hamilton were Ryan Green, Ben Walsh, and Gary Clarke, who contributed one each.

Rogers rejected 44 shots on goal for Hamilton. The Steelhawks registered one goal on seven power play opportunities.
