Early goals doom Brantford, falls to Stoney Creek, 10-2

The Stoney Creek Generals opened up a five-goal lead after the first period and did not look back en route to a 10-2 win over the Brantford Blast.

Ryan O Marra was all over the ice for Stoney Creek, as he tallied one goal and three assists in the win. O Marra scored 6:56 into the second period to make the score 8-1 Stoney Creek. Jeff Leaist picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 16:14 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Generals forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up five minors and two majors for 30 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 16.0 minutes per game Stoney Creek had been spending in the box. The Generals forced Blast's goalies to work in net, getting 52 shots and forcing 42 saves. Ryan Gibb made 31 stops and Brett Leggat made 11. Stoney Creek stifled Brantford's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Generals' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Stoney Creek averages 7.0 goals per contest.

Stoney Creek also got points from Jordan Gignac, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Ryan Healy, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Mike Ruberto, who also had one goal and two assists, Jarrett Konkle, who also registered one goal and two assists, Leaist, who also tallied one goal and two assists, and Andrew Radjenovic, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Stoney Creek also got a goal from Nathan Pageau as well. In addition, Stoney Creek received assists from Nikola Bibic, who had one and Myles Falasca, who had two.

The Blast were held below their usual level of production. Brantford averages 4.6 goals per game. The Blast kept the Generals' goalie busy throughout the game, and Daniel Svedin made 30 saves on 32 shots.

Brantford was led by Derek Medeiros, who had one goal. Medeiros scored 11:07 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Stoney Creek. Mark Taylor assisted on the tally. Ian Fowler also scored for Brantford. Other players who recorded assists for Brantford were Brandon Dietrich, Jeff Caister, and Jamie Williams, who each chipped in one.

Stoney Creek registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Generals, Justin Sawyer and Jeremy Bloomfield were ejected from the contest. The Blast totaled 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors and went 0-for-5 on the power play. Team's Tye Campbell and Ryan McCarthy were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
