Whitby rolls over Thorold, 7-2

The Whitby Dunlops had a five-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 7-2 win over the Thorold Athletics.

Jason Dale had a great game for Whitby, netting two goals. Dale found the back of the net 10:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Whitby and again while 11:50 into the first to make the score 2-0 Whitby.

Thorold was stymied by the Dunlops' netminder Anthony Kimlin, who stopped 30 shots during the victory. Kimlin certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.87 entering the contest.

Whitby forced the Athletics' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 45 shots and forcing 38 saves. Colin Dunne made 22 stops and Matt Sagrott made 16. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Whitby additionally got points from Brett McConnachie, who also racked up one goal and two assists and John Scrymgeour, who also registered one goal and one assist. Whitby also got a goal from Matthew Baxter as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Corey Tamblyn, who had two, Will Jones, who had three, and Adam Maccarone, Kyle Ventura, Darren Doherty, and Greg Leyden, who contributed one each.

Thorold's offense operated below its season average. The Athletics average 4.6 goals per game. Thorold forced the Dunlops goalie Kimlin to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

The Athletics were led by Luke Lynes, who finished with one goal. Lynes scored 2:57 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Chris Risi provided the assist. Fraser Smith also scored for Thorold. Other players who recorded assists for Thorold were Brad Jackson, Steve Zmudcynski, and Brett Beckett, who each chipped in one.

Whitby incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Thorold incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
