Whitby outlasts Stoney Creek, 4-2

The Whitby Dunlops and the Stoney Creek Generals were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Whitby made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Kyle Musselman's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Dunlops were led by Shane Terry, who registered one goal. Terry scored 11:23 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Whitby. Adam Van Dam assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, Stoney Creek was led by Mike Ruberto, who finished with two goals. Ruberto scored the first of his two goals at 6:55 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stoney Creek. Ryan Healy picked up the assist. Ruberto's next tally made the score 3-2 Whitby with 1:45 left in the third period. Nikola Bibic assisted on the tally.

Whitby's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Stoney Creek power plays. The Dunlops' offense rang up 32 shots on the Generals' net.

Whitby also got points from Van Dam, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Whitby also got a goal from John Scrymgeour as well. In addition, Whitby received assists from Peter MacKellar, Jason Dale, and Matt Gray, who each chipped in one.

Stoney Creek stifled Whitby's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Generals were held below their usual level of production. Stoney Creek averages 7.0 goals per game. The Generals kept the Dunlops' goalie busy throughout the game, and Jason Guy made 35 saves on 37 shots.

Whitby incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stoney Creek's Trevor Cann stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Generals incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
