Midland holds on for 6-5 win against ErinErin Community Center Sun, Jan 17, 2016 Story by Narrative Science.
The Erin Shamrocks tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Midland Flyers held on for a 6-5 victory. Midland made the score 6-2 on a goal by Jason Stone at 18:34 in the second period, and Erin got as close as 6-5 when Alec Littlejohn scored 17:02 into the third period. The Flyers' offense was sparked by Evan Buehler, as he ended with four assists in a victory against the Shamrocks. Midland surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Flyers average 3.8 goals per contest. Midland struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 26 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays. The Flyers got an offensive boost from their blueliners, who contributed three goals during the game. Midland also got points from Stone, who also registered one goal and one assist and Matt Schieck, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Midland included Jon Goldsworthy, Hayden Stewart, Jared Aube, and Curtis Anderson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Midland received assists from Noah Bray, Darius Kondrotas, Steven Pickard, Jimmy Walter, and Matt McGrath, who contributed one each. Erin stifled Midland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Shamrocks were led by Jesse Gunn, who racked up two goals and two assists. Gunn scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 6:02 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Erin. Erin earned a power play opportunity when Kondrotas was put in the box for cross checking. Keegan Martinec assisted on the tally. Gunn's next tally on the power play made the score 6-3 Midland with 11:28 left in the third period. Martinec picked up the assist. Erin additionally got points from Jeff Brown, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Liam Adamson also scored for Erin. Other players who recorded assists for Erin were Mike Kri, who had one and Liam Kendall, who had two. Jake Norton recorded 18 saves for the Flyers. Midland registered zero goals on three power play opportunities. Mark Terry rejected 22 shots on goal for the Shamrocks. Erin incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
