Whiteside lifts Schomberg over Erin, 7-2

Behind a great game by Connor Whiteside, who had two goals, the Schomberg Cougars defeated the Erin Shamrocks, 7-2.

Whiteside's tallies came at 10:48 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Schomberg and 18:18 into the third to make the score 7-2 Schomberg.

Schomberg pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 14 penalty minutes.

The Cougars kept Erin's goalie busy throughout the game, and Mark Terry made 44 saves on 51 shots. Schomberg's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Cougars average 3.6 goals per contest. Schomberg's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Schomberg also got points from Kiefer McIntosh, who also had one goal and one assist, Evan Woodhead, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Vince Decastro, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Linden Sturrock, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Schomberg also got a goal from Derek Neilly as well. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Shadoe Storm, who had two, Justin Formenton, who had four, and JP Crescenzi, Joseph Mete, Blake Culley, and Noah Cohen, who each chipped in one.

The Shamrocks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 24 penalty minutes for six opposing power plays.

Erin was helped by Brad Ranson, who had one goal. Ranson scored 7:16 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Schomberg. William Patry provided the assist. Brendan Riddall also scored for Erin. In addition, Erin received assists from Mike Nicolucci, who had one and James Watson-Bagg, who had two.

The Cougars' starting goalie, Vince Michelizzi, made 16 saves and finished with the win before he was taken out in favor of Martin Lauzon, who stopped eight shots. The Shamrocks registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
