Wellesley outlasts Burford, 5-3

The Wellesley Applejacks gutted out a close 5-3 win against the Burford Bulldogs.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Nick Breault's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Breault had two goals to lead Wellesley to victory.

The Applejacks pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 26 penalty minutes.

Wellesley's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Burford power plays. The Applejacks kept Burford's goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Black made 41 saves on 46 shots.

Wellesley additionally got points from Cal Jefferies, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Nick Palmer, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Braidon Kerbs as well. More assists for Wellesley came via Jake Wilkinson, Shaun Pickering, Joe Heath, Nick Mercier, and Justin Lebold, who contributed one each.

The Bulldogs excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. Burford forced Wellesley goalie Ryan Porter to work between the pipes, taking 45 shots.

The Bulldogs were led by Mitch Randell, who had one goal and one assist. Randell scored 15:11 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Burford. Tyler Hinde picked up the assist. Burford also got points from David Denardi, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Tyson Lafrance also scored for Burford. In addition, Burford received assists from Owen Hinch, Hayden Hellyer, and Jesse Brooks, who each chipped in one.

The Applejacks' Porter stopped 42 shots out of the 45 that he faced. Burford incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
