Burford falls to Wellesley in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Wellesley Applejacks' Alex Uttley scored 1:01 into overtime to beat the Burford Bulldogs, 4-3 (OT).

Wellesley nearly gave up a two-score lead. The Applejacks made it 3-1 on a goal by Sean McEwan at 17:06 in the second period. Burford got to within 3-2 on a goal by Josiah Vanwyngaarden at 18:05 in the third period.

McEwan had a great game for Wellesley, netting two goals.

The Applejacks forced the Bulldogs goalie Michael Black to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Wellesley was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on 11 chances with a man advantage. The Applejacks struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as they finished the game with 52 penalty minutes for eight opposing power plays.

Wellesley additionally got points from Jake Wilkinson, who also had one goal and one assist and Uttley, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Justin Lebold, who had one and Cal Jefferies, who had two.

Burford stifled Wellesley's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Applejacks were unable to stop the Bulldogs from sending pucks towards the net, and Burford eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The defensemen of the Bulldogs were also effective in Wellesley's zone, and came away with two goals. Burford could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 44 minutes in penalties during the game.

Burford also had goals scored by Jensen DaSilva and Nolan Ferris, who each put in one. More assists for Burford came via Jesse Szabo, who had two and David Denardi and Kurtis Christo, who contributed one each.

Ryan Porter rejected 34 shots on goal for the Applejacks. Michael Black made 27 saves for the Bulldogs on 31 shots.
