Norwich rolls over Wellesley, 5-2

The Wellesley Applejacks had trouble finding ways to stop the Norwich Merchants, which beat Applejacks, 5-2.

Wellesley's power play was ineffective against Norwich's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

The Merchants were sparked by Darcey Butler, who finished with one goal and one assist. Butler scored 7:39 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Norwich. Noah Burns assisted on the tally.

The Applejacks were unable to stop Norwich from sending pucks towards the net, and the Merchants eventually piled up 39 shots on goal. Norwich's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Merchants average 2.7 goals per contest. Norwich could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 40 minutes in penalties during the game.

Norwich also got points from Jamie Kelly, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Norwich also had goals scored by Derek Slaght, Brandon Velda, and Zack Morrison, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Norwich were Dalton Alford, Riley Monture, and Troy Lamoure, who each chipped in one.

Wellesley's offense rang up 35 shots on the Merchants' net. The Applejacks found themselves short handed often, totaling 42 penalty minutes and allowing seven power plays.

Wellesley was helped by Garrett Schultz, who tallied one goal and one assist. Schultz scored 2:22 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. Brenden Goran picked up the assist. Wellesley additionally got points from Goran, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Wellesley came via Joe Heath, who had two.

Andrew Hawkins made 33 saves for Norwich on 35 shots. For the Merchants, Morrison was ejected from the game. The Applejacks' Ryan Porter stopped 34 shots out of the 39 that he faced. Wellesley ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Matthew Lantz was ejected from the game.
