M1 Kent State University vanquishes M1 Canisius College in shootout, 6-5 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the M1 Kent State University Golden Flashes defeated the M1 Canisius College Golden Griffins in a shootout 6-5 (1-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout.

M1 Kent State University came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Golden Flashes trailed 4-2 after a goal by M1 Canisius College's Brandon Bork at 10:52 in the second period. M1 Kent State University knotted things up at 5-5 on a goal by Kyle Schaefer at 19:51 in the third period.

The Golden Flashes were sparked by Miles Radosevic, who finished with one goal. Radosevic scored on the power play 9:49 into the third period to make the score 4-4. A tripping penalty on Preston Mackert had put M1 Kent State University on the power play. Jonathon Buttitta picked up the assist.

The Golden Flashes forced the Golden Griffins goalie Bret Gilmour to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

M1 Kent State University also had goals scored by Tj West, Curtis Swan, and Adam Wright, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for M1 Kent State University were Connor Ganley, Ctaylo79@kent.edu Taylor, and Andrew Radosevic, who contributed one each.

The defensemen of M1 Canisius College were also effective in M1 Kent State University's zone, and came away with two goals.

Others who scored for M1 Canisius College included Matt Wisotzke, who had two and Stan Pawlow and Matthew Muszynski, who each put in one. In addition, M1 Canisius College received assists from Jess Hackett, who had three and Brandin Cousineau, Nathan Smith, and Jesse Caulkins, who each chipped in one.

Sebastian Ragno made nine saves before being replaced by Sky Buller, who took the win and made 11 saves. The Golden Flashes incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Gilmour rejected 31 shots on goal for the Golden Griffins. M1 Canisius College incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
