Essex downs Wheatley, 6-2

Tyler Scott grabbed two points to lead the Essex 73s to a 6-2 victory over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks.

Essex forced Wheatley's netminders to work without much rest, ripping 38 shots and forcing 32 saves. Eric Morneau made 23 stops and Adam Leboeuf made nine.

Essex also had goals scored by Matthew Hebert, who had two and Riley Meyerink, William Stadder, and Max Viselli, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Phil Janikowski, who had one, Griffin McCarty and Dalton Langlois, who each chipped in two, and Adam Gaiarin and Cody Leeming, who contributed three each.

The Omstead Sharks were helped by Jack Leafeve, who tallied one goal. Leafeve scored on the power play 14:39 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Wheatley earned a power play opportunity when Anthony Cristofaro was put in the box for interference. Mitch Lantin provided the assist. Delaney MacDonald also scored for Wheatley. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Frankie Ciacelli and Brett Bowman, who each chipped in one.

The 73s' Trevor Wheaton stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Essex incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Omstead Sharks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
