Morneau leads Wheatley to shutout victory over Mooretown

Eric Morneau made 32 saves to complete the shutout and led the Wheatley Omstead Sharks to a 1-0 win against the Mooretown Flags.

Mitchell Prudence's game-winning tally was the game's only goal. It came at 14:34 in the second period. Wheatley was on a disadvantage when Nick Tavolieri-Essex went off the ice for goalie interference. Brett Bowman assisted on the tally.

The Omstead Sharks' penalty kill excelled, as Wheatley gave up zero goals despite allowing eight power plays.

The Omstead Sharks racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with eight minors and one major for 41 minutes in penalty time. Wheatley had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Omstead Sharks stifled Mooretown's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Wheatley was held below its usual level of production. The Omstead Sharks average 3.6 goals per game.

The Flags did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Mooretown puts an average of 3.5 pucks into the net per game. Wheatley was unable to stop the Flags from sending pucks towards the net, and Mooretown eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

The Omstead Sharks registered zero goals on one power play opportunities. For Wheatley, Eric Prudence was ejected from the game. Nolan Hakr rejected 21 shots on goal for the Flags. Mooretown incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
