Essex pulls away in second, rolls over Wallaceburg, 9-1

The Wallaceburg Lakers was within striking distance after one period, but the Essex 73s put the pedal down in the second en route to a 9-1 victory.

Essex got the win with help from a great game by Michael Vieira, who had two goals and one assist. Vieira scored the first of his two goals at 18:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex. brendan mcghee assisted on the tally. Vieira's next tally made the score 3-0 Essex with 12:48 left in the second period.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Essex gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

The 73s forced Wallaceburg goalie George Hill to work between the pipes, taking 59 shots. Essex outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the 73s average 5.3 goals per contest.

Essex also got points from William Stadder, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Phil Janikowski, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Essex also had goals scored by Brett Vorshuk, who had two and Matthew Rosati, Tyler Scott, and Dallas Pereira, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Cody Leeming, Anthony Cristofaro, Matthew Hebert, griffin mccarty, Max Viselli, and dalton langlois, who contributed one each and Adam Gaiarin and Tyler Boughner, who each chipped in two.

Matt Badour rejected 17 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. For Essex, Pereira was ejected from the game. Hill recorded 50 saves for the Lakers. Wallaceburg incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
