Vorshuk's big game bests Alvinston in 6-2 Essex win

The Essex 73s' Brett Vorshuk had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 6-2 win over the Alvinston Flyers.

Vorshuk found the back of the net 6:00 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and again while 17:43 into the first to make the score 4-0 Essex.

Alvinston's power play was ineffective against Essex's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The 73s put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Flyers to score on any of their eight power plays. Essex kept Alvinston's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Boere made 27 saves on 33 shots.

Essex additionally got points from Matthew Rosati, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Max Viselli, who also had one goal and one assist. Essex also had goals scored by Matthew Hebert and Alixe Saliba, who scored one goal each. In addition, Essex received assists from Michael Vieira, who had two and Riley Meyerink, Kade McKibbin, Cody Leeming, William Stadder, Phil Janikowski, and Tyler Boughner, who contributed one each.

The Flyers were led by Karsten Berg, who registered one goal and one assist. Berg scored 6:06 into the third period to make the score 6-2 Essex. Kole Keating picked up the assist. Alvinston also got a goal from Kirklin Dorman as well. More assists for Alvinston came via Clint Rose, who had one.

Matt Badour recorded 18 saves for the 73s. Essex incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Alvinston incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
