Shaw lifts Essex over Amherstburg, 2-1

The Essex 73s relied on the scoring touch of Eric Shaw, who netted two goals, to beat the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals, 2-1.

Shaw found the back of the net 18:58 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex and again while on the power play 18:18 into the third to make the score 2-1 Essex.

Amherstburg was stymied by Essex's netminder Trevor Wheaton, who stopped 31 shots during the victory. Wheaton certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.21 entering the contest.

The 73s excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Essex's offense operated below its season average. The 73s average 5.3 goals per game. Essex forced the Integrity Admirals goalie Connor Meyerink to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

In addition, Essex received assists from Matthew Rosati, Anthony Cristofaro, and Tyler Scott, who each chipped in one.

Amherstburg was held below its usual level of production. The Integrity Admirals put an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. Amherstburg's offense rang up 32 shots on the 73s' net.

The Integrity Admirals were led by Ryan Alexander, who scored the team's only goal. Alexander scored 15:53 into the third period to make the score 1-1. Marshal Laing picked up the assist.

Essex incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Amherstburg's Meyerink stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. The Integrity Admirals incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
