Hopkins leads Blenheim over Wallaceburg, 5-2

Behind a great game by Brayden Hopkins, who had one goal and two assists, the Blenheim Blades defeated the Wallaceburg Lakers, 5-2.

Hopkins scored 10:31 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Blenheim. Drew Marlatt provided the assist. Hopkins dished an assist on Dylan Hathaway's goal that made the score 4-0 Blenheim at 13:43 into the second period. He added another helper on Marlatt's goal that made the score 5-2 Blenheim at 5:49 into the third period.

Blenheim's penalty kill excelled, as the Blades gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Blenheim racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the Blades had been spending in the box. Blenheim stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Blenheim also got points from Hathaway, who also had one goal and one assist and Marlatt, who also grabbed one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Blenheim also had goals scored by Bryce Broad and Corbin Hagerman, who each put in one. More assists for Blenheim came via Nick Delyzer, who had two and Owen Bateman, Brayden Seliga, and Kellen Kaniecki, who contributed one each.

The Lakers found themselves short handed often, totaling 18 penalty minutes and allowing three power plays.

Wallaceburg was helped by George Wood, who finished with one goal and one assist. Wood scored 4:31 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Blenheim. Brendan Ritchie picked up the assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Justin Lindsay as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wallaceburg were Trevor Waller, who had one.

Klinton Kenney recorded 18 saves for the Blades. The Lakers' George Hill stopped 24 shots out of the 29 that he faced.
