Essex blows out Wallaceburg, 8-2

The Essex 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Wallaceburg Lakers, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with an 8-2 win.

Max Viselli was all over the ice for Essex, as he had two goals in the win. Viselli's tallies came at 18:17 into the first period to make the score 3-0 Essex and short handed 5:50 into the second to make the score 4-0 Essex.

The 73s' penalty kill excelled, as Essex gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The 73s forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 51 minutes in penalty time. Essex had been averaging 19.0 minutes in penalties per game. The 73s forced Wallaceburg's netminders to work in net, getting 69 shots and forcing 61 saves. George Hill made 57 stops and Alex Carriere made four. Essex found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The 73s have scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign.

Essex additionally got points from Kade McKibbin, who also registered one goal and one assist. Essex also got a goal from William Stadder as well. In addition, Essex received assists from Michael Vieira, who had two, Eric Shaw, who had three, and Riley Meyerink, Brett Vorshuk, Anthony Cristofaro, Tyler Turner, Alixe Saliba, and Dallas Pereira, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wallaceburg was led by Justin Lindsay, who tallied two goals. Lindsay scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 14:58 into the second period to make the score 6-1 Essex. A boarding penalty on Nick Latreille had put the Lakers on the power play. Alex Ritchie provided the assist. Lindsay's next tally on the power play made the score 7-2 Essex with 7:06 left in the third period. George Wood picked up the assist. More assists for Wallaceburg came via Wade Esselment and Cory Lucier, who contributed one each.

Trevor Wheaton made 22 saves for Essex on 24 shots. The 73s registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Essex ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dan Mainella was ejected from the game. For Wallaceburg, Ritchie was ejected from the game.
