The Wheatley Omstead Sharks and the Mooretown Flags skate to 3-3 (OT) tie

Wheatley and Mooretown could not settle their match and fought to a 3-3 tie.

The Omstead Sharks forced Flags' goalies to work in net, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 30 saves. Nolan Hakr made 22 stops and Brandon Johnson made eight. Wheatley stifled the Flags' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Omstead Sharks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 24 minutes in penalties during the game.

Wheatley was led by Nick Tavolieri-Essex, who racked up one goal and one assist. Tavolieri-Essex scored on the power play 17:26 into the first period to make the score 2-2. The Omstead Sharks had gotten the advantage when Mooretown's Daytona Harrison was sent off for tripping. Brett Bowman provided the assist. Wheatley also had goals scored by Justin Pinsonneault and Lucas Raffoul, who scored one goal each. More assists for Wheatley came via Kristian Filipovski and Mitch Lantin, who each chipped in one.

The Flags forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game Mooretown had been spending in the box. The Flags' offense rang up 32 shots on Wheatley's net. Mooretown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

The Flags were helped by Matt Brandon, who had one goal. Brandon scored 14:00 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Alec Segers assisted on the tally. Mooretown also got points from Cameron Rannie, who also tallied one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Dawson Vautour also scored for Mooretown. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Joe DeSena and Trevor Bogaert, who contributed one each.

Eric Morneau recorded 29 saves for the Omstead Sharks. Wheatley registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. Mooretown registered zero goals on five power play opportunities. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Segers was ejected from the game.
