Blenheim beats Wheatley 6-3 as Hopkins gets hat trick

Brayden Hopkins netted a hat trick to lead the Blenheim Blades over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks, 6-3.

Hopkins' first goal came 11:05 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:58 into the second and at 17:18 into the second.

Blenheim pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes.

Blenheim additionally got points from Zack Horvath, who also had one goal and three assists to lead the team in points. Blenheim also had goals scored by Hunter Burk and Dustin Maines, who each put in one. More assists for Blenheim came via Nick Delyzer, who had two and Bryan Boersma, Owen Bateman, Matt Clark, Kirk McKillop, Brayden Seliga, and Dylan Hathaway, who each chipped in one.

Wheatley was helped by Nick Tavolieri-Essex, who registered one goal. Tavolieri-Essex scored on the power play 9:20 into the first period to make the score 1-1. The Omstead Sharks had gotten the advantage when the Blades' Clark was sent off for tripping. Brett Bowman picked up the assist. Others who scored for Wheatley included Delaney MacDonald and Kristian Brockelbank, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Brady Hillock, Justin Pinsonneault, Cole Butler, Andreas Gossmann, and Connor Goodchild, who contributed one each.

Klinton Kenney rejected 24 shots on goal for Blenheim. The Blades registered two goals on five power play opportunities. Adam Leboeuf made 23 saves for Wheatley on 29 shots. The Omstead Sharks incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
