Segers nets hat trick, leads Mooretown to 8-3 win over Wallaceburg

A hat trick by Alec Segers was the highlight in Flags' 8-3 win against the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Segers got on the scoresheet 7:27 into the second period. He then added goals at 16:13 into the second and at 5:03 into the third.

The Mooretown Flags' penalty kill excelled, as Mooretown gave up one goal despite allowing eight power plays.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 17:48 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Flags' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and two majors for 32 minutes in penalty time. Mooretown surpassed its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flags forced Wallaceburg's goaltenders to work between the pipes, launching 43 shots and forcing 35 saves. George Hill made 23 stops and Alex Carriere made 12. Mooretown's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Flags average 3.8 goals per contest. Mooretown's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Mooretown additionally got points from Mike Kindrachuk, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Nolan Riley, who also registered one goal and one assist, Jakob Reeves, who also had one goal and one assist, and Colton Osborne, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mooretown also got a goal from Matt Brandon as well. In addition, Mooretown received assists from Kyle Smith, who had two, Ben Morrison, who had three, and Landon Wilson and Colin Osler, who contributed one each.

The Lakers were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 24.0 minutes per game Wallaceburg had been spending in the box.

The Lakers were led by Brendan Ritchie, who tallied two goals and one assist. Ritchie scored the first of his two goals at 53 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Justin Lindsay picked up the assist. Ritchie's next tally made the score 2-2 with 18:43 left in the second period. Brett Barnes assisted on the tally. Wallaceburg also got points from George Wood, who also registered one goal and one assist.

Nolan Hakr recorded 24 saves for the Flags. Mooretown registered two goals on five power play opportunities. For the Flags, Christian Lyle and Dawson Vautour were ejected from the contest. Team's Lindsay and Alex Ritchie were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
