Horvath's hat trick boosts Blenheim over Wallaceburg, 9-4

Zack Horvath netted a hat trick to lead the Blenheim Blades over the Wallaceburg Lakers, 9-4.

Horvath's first goal came 2:58 into the first period. He then added goals at 3:58 into the second and at 16:33 into the third.

Blenheim forced Lakers' goaltenders to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots and forcing 42 saves. George Hill made 28 stops and Alex Carriere made 14. The Blades found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Blenheim averages 4.4 goals per game. The Blades took advantage of Wallaceburg's penalties, tallying three goals off of three power play opportunities.

Blenheim additionally got points from Nolan VandenBoorn, who also registered two goals and one assist and Drew Marlatt, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Dustin Maines also scored for Blenheim. Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were Braeden Allore, who had two, Brayden Hopkins, who had four, and Doug Ross, Kirk McKillop, and Kellen Kaniecki, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers were led by George Wood, who racked up two goals. Wood scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:10 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Wallaceburg. A leaving penalty bench penalty on Horvath had put Wallaceburg on the power play. Brendan Ritchie picked up the assist. Wood's next tally on the power play made the score 8-4 Blenheim with 8:14 left in the third period. The Lakers had gotten the advantage when Blenheim's Bryan Boersma was sent off for slashing. Tyler McLean provided the assist. Others who scored for Wallaceburg included Trevor Waller and Cory Lucier, who each put in one. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Jackson Gray, Justin Browning, Justin Lindsay, and Brett Farr, who contributed one each.

Klinton Kenney rejected 18 shots on goal for the Blades. Blenheim incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Wallaceburg incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
