Essex outlasts Alvinston, 6-4

The Essex 73s and the Alvinston Flyers were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Essex made the most of its opportunities and won, 6-4.

The 73s gained the winning advantage on a goal by Phil Janikowski 13:25 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Janikowski had a great game for Essex, netting two goals.

The 73s forced Alvinston goalie Matt Boere to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots.

Essex also got points from Dallas Pereira, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Tyler Scott also scored for Essex. More assists for Essex came via Adam Gaiarin, who had two and William Stadder, Tyler Boughner, Max Viselli, Tyler Turner, Alixe Saliba, and Michael Vieira, who contributed one each.

The Flyers excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances.

Alvinston was helped by Zach VanEyk, who tallied one goal. VanEyk scored 14:42 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Alvinston additionally got points from Karsten Berg, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Alvinston included Hunter Bryce and Mark McNally, who each put in one. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Fraser Wilson and Matt Gough, who each chipped in one.

Matt Badour rejected 15 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Matt Boere made 33 saves for the Flyers on 38 shots. Alvinston incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
