Dresden's comeback falls short, Wallaceburg wins 7-5

The Wallaceburg Lakers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Dresden Kings, but did just enough to escape with a 7-5 victory.

Wallaceburg led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Lakers' Justin Melo scored at 6:15 in the second period to put Wallaceburg up 4-1.

The Lakers bested their season scoring average. This season, Wallaceburg averages 2.5 goals per contest. The Lakers were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 28 penalty minutes.

Wallaceburg was helped by George Wood, who finished with two goals. Wood scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 24 seconds into the third period to make the score 5-3 Wallaceburg. Brendan Ritchie picked up the assist. Wood's next tally on the power play made the score 7-5 Wallaceburg with 13 seconds left in the third period. Ritchie provided the assist. Wallaceburg additionally got points from Bronson Bea, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Kadin Ritchie as well. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Drew Fisher, who had two and Jackson Gray, Trevor Waller, Cory Lucier, Justin Lindsay, Ryan Greenaway, and Dak Johnstone, who contributed one each.

Dresden's offense rang up 46 shots on the Lakers' net.

The Kings were led by Macks Holmes, who registered one goal and three assists. Holmes scored 4:03 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Wallaceburg. Will Tetzlaff picked up the assist. Dresden also got points from Geoffry (APM) VandenBoorn, who also grabbed two goals and one assist and Tetzlaff, who also had one goal and one assist. Isaac McLean also scored for Dresden. More assists for Dresden came via John Montgomery, who had three.

George Hill made 41 saves for Wallaceburg on 46 shots. The Lakers registered one goal on three power play opportunities. Travis Moore recorded 21 saves for Dresden. The Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
