Mooretown outlasts Wallaceburg, 6-4

The game between the Mooretown Flags and the Wallaceburg Lakers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Mooretown emerged with a 6-4 win.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Ben Morrison secured the win for the Flags with a goal in the third period.

In a losing effort, Wallaceburg was paced by Justin Lindsay, who had two goals. Lindsay scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 12:35 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Mooretown. The Lakers had gained a power play chance when Mike Kindrachuk was whistled for kneeing. George Wood picked up the assist. Lindsay's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Mooretown with 1:00 left in the third period. Wood assisted on the tally.

In the losing effort, Wallaceburg was led by Lindsay, who tallied two goals.

Mooretown kept the Lakers' goalie busy throughout the game, and George Hill made 35 saves on 41 shots. The Flags found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. This season, Mooretown averages 3.5 goals per contest. The Flags were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 42 penalty minutes.

Mooretown was helped by Joe DeSena, who registered one goal. DeSena scored 16:17 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Mooretown. Cameron Rannie picked up the assist. Mooretown also got points from Rannie, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mooretown included Landon Wilson and Alec Segers, who scored one goal each.

Wallaceburg was held back by its power play unit, which tallied two goals on nine chances. The Lakers' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Wallaceburg finished with 40 penalty minutes.

Wallaceburg additionally got points from Brendan Ritchie, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Jacob Theoret also scored for Wallaceburg. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Bronon Bea and Justin Browning, who contributed one each.

The Flags' Nolan Hakr stopped 25 shots out of the 29 that he faced. Mooretown registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For the Flags, Christian Lyle was ejected from the game.
