Essex downs Blenheim, 3-0

Eric Shaw registered one point to lead the Essex 73s to a 3-0 victory over the Blenheim Blades.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 15:24 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Essex kept Blenheim's goalie busy throughout the game, and Klinton Kenney made 35 saves on 38 shots. The 73s were held back by their power play unit, which tallied one goal on nine chances.

Essex also got points from Anthony Cristofaro, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Essex also got a goal from Phil Janikowski as well. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Matthew Rosati, who had two.

The Blades racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and two majors for 50 minutes in penalty time. Blenheim surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Blades did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Blenheim puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Blades did not challenge the opposing netminder, only getting 12 shots on net to force 12 saves.

Trevor Wheaton made 12 saves for Essex on 12 shots. The 73s ended with 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors and two majors. Team's Dan Mainella and Dallas Pereira were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Blenheim registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For the Blades, Bryan Boersma and Dustin Maines were ejected from the contest.
