Essex takes care of Wallaceburg early, wins 8-1

The Essex 73s jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 8-1.

Riley Meyerink was all over the ice for Essex, as he racked up two goals in the win. Meyerink's tallies came at 4:57 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex and 15:34 into the second to make the score 7-0 Essex.

The 73s forced Wallaceburg's goalies to work all game long, ripping 51 shots and forcing 43 saves. Alex Carriere made 34 stops and Derion Ducedre made nine. Essex bested its season scoring average. This season, the 73s average 5.0 goals per contest. Essex's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Essex also got points from Tyler Scott, who also registered one goal and one assist and Michael Vieira, who also had one goal and one assist. Essex also had goals scored by Luke Gecse, who had two and Brett Vorshuk and Phil Janikowski, who scored one goal each. In addition, Essex received assists from Matt Zelko, who had three and Matthew Rosati, Adam Gaiarin, Nick Latreille, Tyler Boughner, Tyler Turner, Alixe Saliba, and Dan Mainella, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers found themselves stymied offensively, and got off a mere 12 shots against the 73s' defense.

Matt Badour rejected 11 shots on goal for Essex. The 73s incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wallaceburg incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
