Huge game by Tavolieri-Essex boosts Wheatley over Lakeshore, 9-4

Nick Tavolieri-Essex had five goals and one assist to lead the Wheatley Omstead Sharks to a 9-4 victory over the Lakeshore Canadiens.

Tavolieri-Essex got on the scoresheet 4:10 into the first period. He then added goals at 17:58 into the first, at 13:44 into the second, at 19:08 into the second, and at 13:59 into the third.

Wheatley stifled Lakeshore's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Omstead Sharks surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Wheatley has scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign.

Wheatley also got points from Brett Bowman, who also racked up two goals and three assists. Others who scored for Wheatley included Brady Hillock and Brian Johnson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Delaney MacDonald, who had one and Andreas Gossmann, who had four.

The Canadiens put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Omstead Sharks to score on any of their three power plays.

Lakeshore was helped by Michael Long, who had one goal. Long scored 17:46 into the first period to make the score 3-2 Wheatley. Lakeshore also had goals scored by Kyle Gagnon, Brandon Ireland, and Brenden Crundwell, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Lakeshore were Steven Sartor, JJ Percy, Hunter Corp, Zack Bedard, and Dylan Kolic, who each chipped in one.

Eric Morneau recorded 26 saves for Wheatley. The Omstead Sharks incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Canadiens' starting goalie, Brendan Shuck, made 17 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Colin Tetreault, who stopped two shots. Lakeshore incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
