Essex blows out Wheatley, 6-1

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks had trouble finding ways to stop the Essex 73s, which beat Omstead Sharks, 6-1.

Essex got the win on the strength of a great game by Phil Janikowski, who had one goal and two assists. Janikowski scored 11:47 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. Luke Gecse picked up the assist.

Wheatley was stymied by the 73s' netminder Trevor Wheaton, who stopped 26 shots during the victory. Despite the solid performance, Wheaton will actually see his goals against average rise, as it stood at 0.62 entering the contest.

Essex excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The 73s forced the Omstead Sharks goalie Adam Leboeuf to work between the pipes, taking 40 shots.

Essex additionally got points from Adam Gaiarin, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Brett Vorshuk, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Michael Vieira, who also had one goal and one assist. Essex also had goals scored by Tyler Boughner and Dallas Pereira, who scored one goal each. More assists for Essex came via William Stadder, who had two and Matthew Rosati, Matt Zelko, and Max Viselli, who contributed one each.

Andreas Gossmann also scored for Wheatley.

Essex incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors. Wheatley's Leboeuf stopped 34 shots out of the 40 that he faced. The Omstead Sharks incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
